One of the goals set by the new German government is the modernization of German climate policy. New Chancellor Scholz sees the expansion of the electric vehicle market as a central pillar of this policy. The number of electrically powered cars is to increase dramatically.
The three governing parties were already in agreement during the election campaign. Expanding electric vehicle transport was to be a central theme of the new coalition government. Chancellor Olaf Scholz reiterated this commitment in his first government statement to the Bundestag on Wednesday: "In the coming years, we will ensure that mobility becomes simpler, more comfortable, and more climate-friendly, while remaining affordable for everyone."
In addition to the "expansion and modernization pact" for improved local rail passenger transport, Scholz also clearly endorsed the most popular means of transport for Germans: the car
"Many people enjoy driving their cars, and that should remain the case." However, the propulsion systems of vehicles must finally become climate-friendly.
Scholz therefore stated his goal was to allow around 15 million additional electric cars to be registered for use on German roads by 2030.
Although car sales are currently somewhat weaker, the set target is quite realistic considering the simultaneously booming electric car market.
