Where can you find the HSN and TSN?
The HSN and TSN number can be found on the registration certificate part 1 (vehicle registration) in fields 2.1 and 2.2. For older vehicles - registered before 2005 - you will find the HSN in field 2 and the TSN in field 3.
What is the vehicle key number?
The vehicle key number consists of the manufacturer number (HSN) and the type number (TSN). These two numbers are collectively referred to as the vehicle key number or KBA and can be found in the vehicle registration document or vehicle registration document for vehicles registered in Germany.
The key number of the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) is used to precisely identify the vehicle type.

What are the advantages of the HSN TSN query?
The purpose of the HSN TSN or HSN / TSN query is to find the right HSN or TSN for a vehicle quickly and easily. This is especially important if you want to buy, invest or sell a vehicle.
For some vehicles, however, only the number "0" is given in field 2.2. In this case, the key number alone is unfortunately not sufficient to identify the vehicle. This is because your vehicle is a "re-import". A re-import is a vehicle that was produced for the foreign market and then imported to Germany. In this case, the key numbers available to you cannot be used to search for spare parts.
The manufacturer of the vehicle can be determined via the HSN. There are no restrictions on how many different HSN numbers a manufacturer can use. BMW for example uses the numbers 0005, 0575 and 7909.
In addition to the option to determine the vehicle data via the HSN TSN query, you can also use the DAT VIN query. Here you determine all vehicle data, as well as calculated information on the historical purchase price and sales price as well as equipment features directly via the CATAMA DAT interface.
